|10/19/2017 5:11:46 AM - Is it me or is it getting downright chilly? This is the kind of weather that definitely makes me want to hunker down and work! |
"CO" JUST RELEASED!! -- The new compilation "CO" just got released in Japan by Universal. For those of you who generously became my top participants for my "Flow" project, I've sent this CD to you as a bonus. It features many songs from both my previous solo albums as well as other artists' projects which are generally collaborations and on the club tip, and includes a new never-released track, a remix of "You Make Me" by the Japanese duo Studio Apartment who has quite the buzz right now in the underground scene.
JOBINIANA - A TRIBUTE TO ANTONIO CARLOS JOBIM Out 10/10 -- The release date has been delayed a couple weeks to October 10th. Featuring various artists' take on some Jobim classics, including Orange Pekoe, bird, akiko, Hidefumi Ino and others, the cover is really cute! In fact, you can click onto the official Jobiniana to check out more information:
WEBSITE GOODIES UPLOADED FOR "FLOW" PARTICIPANTS -- As promised, after the much needed summer interlude, I am back on it. You'll find a bunch of things just recently uploaded, including a new (LONG!) blog, audio clips from the last Osaka Blue Note performance in July, and I just today completed editing the first part of the video I took while on tour -- two more parts to go and they'll be uploaded for your viewing, so check for them some time next week. Pretty silly stuff, a lot of senseless blabbing, but some insights here and there. Also waiting to get a couple videos taken while in Japan during this last tour which I hope to be able to share with you.
For those who are not "Flow" participants, it's never too late to buy into one of the many packages. Considering the lowest priced item, the Flow Download Participant, goes for $12.95 and you get the new upcoming album once it's made, as well as the "Alternate Routes" CD as a download, many live unreleased recordings and so many other perks, it's really a deal.
NEW TOURS! -- The details are firming up still, but I am confirmed for several concerts:
November 1 -- Mastercard event at Club Ikspiari/duet with my mother (did you spend 5000 yen overseas then send in a postcard and get selected? If so, see you there!)
November 3 -- Duet with guitarist Yoshihisa Suzuki in SAPPORO (club TBA)
November 23-25 -- We've been invited back to perform at the Jak Jazz Festival again this year; in fact not only my band but also Sasha's quintet! I'll be performing on the 24th and 25th (Saturday & Sunday), and Sasha will be performing the 23rd and 25th (Friday and Sunday).
At this point we have a couple tentative days: November 4 in Kobe (again a duet with guitarist Suzuki-san) and November 28 in Bali. We'll see how things firm up. Unfortunately Kyoto and Kumamoto didn't work out because of visa application problems as well as schedule conflicts. C'est la vie.
A GOOD CHUCKLER -- One of my fans who I've become penpals with (or should I say keyboard-pals? Cyber-pals?) gave me this link that had me giggling! An OLD (and I mean circa 1991 or so) clip from a TV taping with myself, DJ Krush and MC Muro (they've got me tagged as MC Monday!) performing one of my first songs "Wagamama." I just had to share it with you!
AND ON A MORE SERIOUS NOTE -- Here are links to a couple of nice articles and pieces. This one is about Sasha's ArtistShare release OUT OF THE CIRCLE which I am featured in that has a nice review:
One of the interviews I did during the last tour with a Japanese e-zine Music Shelf:
And another, Plug In (scroll down on the page a bit):
IN CLOSING -- There are so many great musicians who are passing away around us and I'm sure many of you felt as sad as I with the passing of Pavoratti. This is one of my favorite clips on You Tube, Pavoratti with James Brown singing "It's A Man's World."
