|Japan Duet Tour - June 7 (Wednesday) cont'd|
|11/18/2017 6:23:27 AM - June 7 (cont'd) June 7 (cont'd) The night was pretty good. Voice was in good condition and while I felt that some of the songs were a little stiff due to the lack of our playing them together, I knew it would gel as the tour progressed, but I was confident that it was definitely a strong first night. I was told to add 1 more song to the 2nd set to make it longer, and we ended up adding 2 more, the 2nd one inadvertently when I quite spontaneously asked saxophonist Masayan ("Sleepwalker," "Mondo Grosso," etc.) to sit in with us and he needed time to set up his ax, and we needed a filler tune. We ended up throwing in "Mysteries of Life" but because I didn't have my lyrics with me and it had been a while since I sang it, it came off with a lot of "la la la"s. Oops.|
Singer Kaleb James, who I had performed with many years ago, was also in the audience, so I had him come up with Masayan and they sat in on "You Make Me." Kaleb tore it up and the audience totally dug it! I also saw Okino-san (Kyoto Jazz Massive), Raymon (old friend, art director on my debut album "Mangetsu"), director Kaizo Hayashi, and several other friends in the audience. Always so nice to have friends come and show support. Another person who came was a photographer, Jun Sato, introduced to me by an old friend, Lisle, who only recently got into my music but who wanted to take a portrait of me. After a long day and 2 performances, with an autograph session in the end to boot, I was dead but posed for several shots. I'm sure I looked atrocious but he was genuinely happy, saying I was so creative in front of the lens. Hmmm...we'll see about that. I finally stumbled into bed by 1:00 a.m.
