| 2/21/2019 12:30:56 AM - For those in the northern hemisphere, I trust everyone is getting into the Spring groove and gearing up for the warmer months ahead. It's been a rough Winter and rocky start to the Spring here in New York -- and I write this with not just the weather in mind -- but hopefully better days are ahead.
Here's what's happening:
DON'T DISTURB THIS GROOVE CD to be released May 25 -- It WAS originally slated for release on May 11, but there were some problems with the pressing, so it has been now pushed back to the 25th. What began as a couple of tracks made for my friend Yasushi Ide's indies label Grand Gallery in Japan for some compilation projects several years back has now grown into a full blown project of covers, 10 tracks in all. We finished recording, mixing and mastering by March; some top rate musicians gracing the tracks, and of course Dave Darlington manning the board (and mastering for me for the first time!). I'm very happy with how the project's come out and excited for its release. You can check out the artwork and song list in my website. For those living outside Japan, I believe Dusty Groove will probably be carrying it.
JUNE DATES IN JAPAN -- The "Don't Disturb This Groove" Release Tour will be kicking off in less than a month, and I'm excited to be finally going back to Japan and performing with my band at the following clubs:
June 11 -- Yamaguchi Jazz Club Billie (duet with guitarist Yoshihisa Suzuki) http://billie.jp
June 15 -- Osaka Billboard Club (2 sets) (with full band) http://www.billboard-live.com/pg/shop/index.php?mode=top&shop=2
June 16 -- Nagoya Blue Note Club (2 sets) (will full band) http://www.nagoya-bluenote.com/index.html
June 17 -- Matsumoto GNU (Mole Hall 4F) (with full band) http://www.molehallproject.com/
June 18 -- Tokyo Billboard Club (2 sets) (with full band) http://www.billboard-live.com/pg/shop/index.php?mode=top&shop=1
The band members are:
Alex Sipiagin - trumpet/flugelhorn Yoshihisa Suzuki - guitar Masanori Amakura - drums Takayuski Doi - acoustic bass
COMPILATION PROJECT FOR ADVENTURE MUSIC -- I was recently contacted by one of the heads of this very interesting lable based in the U.S. (and most coincidentally residing in Long Island not far from us!); one thing led to another, and now we have a double CD compilation of their vast catalogue of works (over 60 that I personally listened through, and there are more...). Ranging from predominantly Brazilian artists, as well as those from other areas of South America and many also from the U.S., it's been a thrilling and educational sonic ride for me in being exposed to many artists I hadn't known of, and I'm really excited to share it with you. Release should be some time before the end of this year and there are potential future collaborations in the works -- I'll keep you all posted!
SKYPE LESSONS NOW AVAILABLE -- While I was still living in Japan, I had the honor of being called in as a vocal producer and arranger for several young vocalists (such as Bird's earlier works), and I realized then that I actually like to teach and have something I can pass on. My many years of experience in the studio and performing on stage has given me knowledge that I think is beneficial for those who are still starting, and I've learned from some of the top vocal coaches in Los Angeles and still utilize and practice those techniques to help limber up the voice. ETC. -- After being reminded by many fans that it's been a couple years since my last performance with my unit in NYC, I am in talks with SOBs to try and put something together, hopefully this summer. There are a couple of other things in the works which I cannot announce as of yet, so "stay tuned" for future announcements and newsletter blasts!
IN CLOSING -- The recent earthquakes and tsunami in Japan, followed by the still ongoing Fukushima nuclear plant radiation leak disaster has been weighing heavily in my heart. While I participated in several charity fund raisers and continue to look for avenues in which I can do something to help those afflicted, it never seems enough and has been a source of great frustration for me. My tour in June musically and spiritually will be dedicated to my Japanese brothers and sisters, and my aim is to give hope and positivity.
Thank you!
