 | | Newsletter Summer 2011
| 2/4/2012 4:37:47 PM - I hope this newsletter finds everyone well and, for those in the northern hemisphere, enjoying their summer.
Firstly, a big hearty thanks to those who came to the performances last month in Blue Note Nagoya, the Billboard Clubs in Tokyo and Osaka, Gnu in Matsumoto, and Billie's in Shimonoseki. We had a super memorable tour thanks to everyone's great and generous energies.
Some upcoming performances, releases and other projects to announce:
JULY 23, SATURDAY IN TAIPEI, TAIWAN -- I am very proud to announce an upcoming performance in Taipei, Taiwan for their 2011 New Taipei City Riverside Arts Festival. It is my first time in Taiwan and I'm very excited and honored to have been asked to participate in this festival, as well as for the chance to explore the city a little bit. I will be performing with Taiwan's local musicians in a set that will also see another group from Sweden for the opening ceremony to usher in this two week festival. Starts at 7:00 p.m. at Yonghe Renai Park.
JULY 28, THURSDAY IN SAPPORO, JAPAN -- Another festival! Yey! Really happy to make it back to Sapporo with my Japanese band for the Sapporo City Jazz Ezo Groove 2011 at the White Rock Music Tent. For more information:

JULY 30, SATURDAY IN GIFU, JAPAN -- Always exciting to go to a city and club that I haven't performed yet, and this is the case with club-G for their "Mellow Groove Night Vol. 4" event. I will be performing in an acoustic set . For more information:

AUGUST 27, SATURDAY IN FUKUOKA, KYUSHU, JAPAN -- For this two day event (8/26-27) entitled "Nakasu Jazz," I'm performing on the 27th in an duo acoustic set with Yoshihisa Suzuki-san on guitar at two different locations on the same day. Best part: It's free, no admittance charge! First stage is a half hour set at 5:30 somewhere (sorry, I don't even know!), and the second is a 45 minute set at 8:00 p.m. at the Canal Sun Plaza Stage at Canal City.
AUGUST 28, SUNDAY IN BEPPU, KYUSHU, JAPAN -- My hometown! Performing at the Creole Cafe for their opening anniversary party. There will be a huge list of DJs as well as another group performance. Again performing with Yoshihisa Suzuki-san in a duet setting. Opens at 6:00 p.m., live starts at 8:00 p.m. at Beppu Tower "U-Stream Studio Oita) (3F) and "Creole Cafe" on the 1st Floor.
UNOFFICIALLY... -- Okay, I'm not sure if I'm allowed to make this official or not, but it's too exciting for me not to mention! So unofficially: I will be a guest for my mother's group performing at the Tokyo Blue Note from November 1-4! Over the years, my mother and I have performed in a duet setting, and on only one instance I sat in with her trio as well as having just come off the tour to China last year with her big band, so this is a SUPER rare opportunity to see not only my mother who is literally a living legend in jazz and also a living national treasure of Japan but us performing together. For me, it is with great honor and pride, and hope you will join us.
THE TYLER FOUNDATION "SHINE ON" RECORDING PROJECT -- I was recently asked to sing on and produce a song written by Mark Ferris of the Tyler Foundation which he and his wife, Kimberly Forsythe founded after they lost their son, Tyler, to leukemia at 23 months old. We're still in the middle of the recording, but I think the song is coming out beautifully which will also featuring their young daughter Natalie who has such a pure and gorgeous voice. It will be part of a 12 song project with sales to help raise awareness and funding to benefit children of this terrible affliction. More later as the project comes to its completion.

That's it for now.

And can I say a big WOOP WOOP to the Japanese Women's Soccer Team for winning the 2011 FIFA Women's World Cup!! So proud, and I think a greatly needed win for the morale of the Japanese in these dire times.
